Having received world class care at the hands of the NHS whilst being treated for Leukaemia at St Bartholomew’s Hospital in Central London Ashley has dedicated his life to celebrate the greatness of the staffs and achievements of the NHS, bringing balance to an unbalanced system, never negative and always positive.
Ashley was asked by Joan Saddler OBE of the Department of Health to create the role of National Patient Champion and to join the team at NHS London in May 2010. As National Patient Champion the role engages with NHS staff and patients alike, creating partnerships and voice.
More and more Ashley is now working with Acute Trusts, Community Services, Mental Health providers and Clinical Commissioning Groups with the remit of patient and staff engagement. Motivating staff based on value based sessions including the “Who Cares” and “5 minutes of wisdom” events.
Largely working with Organisational Development and Human Resources Directors to design, create and deliver large scale culture change programmes throughout the NHS.
Ashley has created a truly independent whistle blowing service for NHS staffs, The Guardian Service. That confidentially gives a safe haven for all staffs to raise concerns and issues. This service has had huge success.
